What’s a Living Learning Community?
By living in one of our focused residential communities, students will have access to exclusive activities that are designed to support the interests and needs of students in a focused area. Residents experience on-campus life with fellow students who share their academic and personal interests, which supports many diverse positive outcomes for the students. LLCs at UF range from narrow and academic to broad and interdisciplinary.
Our academic LLCs match students’ academic program or major interests. Each community is aligned with a UF college or department, specific field of study, and committed faculty members. These communities create a cohort experience that enable residents to connect with peers on similar academic and career paths. LLC stakeholder teams comprised of housing staff, academic personnel, career coaches, and student leadership from within the community are dedicated creating experiential learning right where residents live. Events in our LLCs include academic support, career conversations, networking, trivia, hands on projects, and more that connect the classroom to the residence hall!
To provide opportunities for all of our residents, Housing and Residence Life has partnered with several Student Affairs and campus units to create thematic communities for our residents. These communities relate to shared interests like active living or creativity and innovation. Thematic communities allow students to explore various dimensions of the theme and participate in events with others who share this passion area. Thematic communities add richness and depth to the on campus experience!
